Classes run each week and are lead by different teachers to get a range of styles and approaches.
Try to come a few times to get a taste of each teacher.

Music is offered each week except for the last week of the month.
The focus is still on the dancing and the music adds another layer to respond to in the studio.

New experiences
It can be disorienting when you first start dancing CI for many reasons. It may bring up things about your body or memories. Touch and being touched by others can open up new experiences that we don’t normally have in our everyday lives.

It can be very healing and exhilarating.
It can also bring you into contact with things in your body that you didn’t know were there.

Touch is a powerful medium. Deep listening is another skill and what you are going to be training.

Its helpful to do other movement training- dance classes, martial arts, yoga, Anatomy, anything that will develop a discipline and awareness.

Dance Class/Studio Etiquette:
Shoe- free space
Arrive early to register and change and be ready to start class on time
Jam is practice space
Studio is focused space for dancing, socializing happens in the kitchen or lobby
Pay and register on time

Coming Late
Can I join the class late? We ask that after 15 minutes in to class, you come back for the jam

Safety:
Dancers are responsible for their own safety. If you have an existing injury, let people know but its still your responsibility to look after that and know your limitations. Ask the teacher if you have concerns.
During the class the teacher will look out for things but during the jam, everyone is equally responsible for what happens in the space. The organisers of the Jam are not babysitters and are not holding the space, they guide and look after thigns like the musician and the level of talking but the dancing that happens and the focus is up to who comes to dance on that day.

Personal safety- you know your limits and if you have injuries, work with them and if its something that others need to know, communicate that in some way so its clear.

Physical safety- avoid grabbing, avoid throwing your entire weight on someone, take care when moving fast and when going upside down.

Self Responsibility
A big part of dancing CI is being responsible, learning your limits and learning how to be safe, how to fall, when to sit out and watch, how to listen with care to other dancers and the space.  Mistakes will be made but there is plenty of opportunity to practice.
